Drugs and advisers

Irrespective of who is right or wrong, what's the point of taking on expert advisers if the intention is to ignore their advice?

I think the idea is that you appoint an expert so that they can tell you something that will be politically expedient and then, when anyone moans, you can point to the fact you took expert advice. You don't pay them to tell you inconvenient truths now, do you?
